Good to know

Traveling with family or a group? Most of Playa Grande is private homes and villas, many with 4–5 bedrooms and a pool, in both the RED and BLUE areas. Look on Airbnb and VRBO.

Stay close to the sand. Playa Grande is a beach unlike any you’ve ever experienced, and you’ll want to be as close to it as possible. Look for places inside the RED and BLUE areas on the map.

Check the map before you book. Rental sites often list homes in Flamingo, Potrero or Playa Negra as “Playa Grande.” They’re separate towns, a drive away.

Book early for high season. December to April fills up fast, especially Christmas, New Year’s and Easter week. Holiday weeks often have minimum stays.

Lights low at night. Playa Grande sits inside Las Baulas National Marine Park. Homes and hotels keep outdoor lights low or shielded so nesting turtles aren’t disturbed. Expect dark, romantic, starry nights.

Check the total price. Costa Rica’s 13% tax applies to lodging. Some places include it, others add it at checkout.
